Building A Literacy Program Together

 Dear Parents,

                Your child is being exposed to many new and exciting learning experiences at home and school. As a literacy Magnet, our focus is on literacy in all curriculum areas including math, science, social studies, writing and    reading. To succeed I need your help. The most important resource in developing your child’s love for reading is YOU! Please read to your child daily. Reading aloud and using interactive language are the most important activities that build a foundation of literacy. Children learn something new every time they experience a book:  new vocabulary, a different character, new meaning from the plot.  I appreciate your support in making this program work.
 Thank you,   Mrs. Aaron

Unity

I dreamed I stood in a studio

And watched two sculptors there,

The clay they used was a young  child’s mind

And they fashioned it with care.

 One was a teacher; the tools she used was books and music and art;

One was a parents  with a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.

 And when at last their work was done they had wrought.

For the things they had worked into the child could never be sold or bought.

Each agreed she would have failed if she had worked alone.  For behind the parent stood the school, and behind the teacher stood  the home.

Writing

Writing is an important part of communication. In second grade we focus on main ideas, voice, and conventions.
